"Suburban Sky, a sample sale company with a heart, brings its unique blend of fashion and fundraising to Montclair."
- The Montclair Times, 11.22.07

Partnering with good friend and fellow mom Lisa Haas was a natural move.

Lisa has her finger on the pulse of the Montclair community: she is a licensed real estate agent, has renovated and staged Victorians for resale and is active in community projects.

She brings her enthusiasm and fearless approach to every project, just as she did as a supervisor of the Bronx Zoo’s Children’s Zoo, where she tackled almost everything, from alligators to wallabies to merchandising and development.

Now taming the suburbs, and her newborn baby boy, Lisa brings her resourcefulness and knowledge to the practical world.

Suburban Sky came to life in the summer of 2007.

Principals include Malia Valchar, who combines her new-found love of the suburbs with her 15 year-plus knowledge of the wholesale industry.

Malia spent years doing both PR and sales for Metropolitan Design Group, a multi-line wholesale showroom in the heart of the garment district.  From there she headed to Nolita, selling in-house for the Chilewich collection, to boutiques such as MoMA Design Store.

She ventured out on her own in 2000, with Dobre Goods, a line of practical tote bags in vintage prints that could be found across the country in hot spots like Flight 001 and Kitson, as well as licensed "Subway Signs" goods at the MTA stores

Malia currently teaches art at the YMCA Family Center in Montclair.
